A young zoo-goer had the fright of his life when a huge tiger attempted to have him for lunch.
A video of the scary incident shows the boy sitting in front of the tiger enclosure at Dublin Zoo.
He looks over his left shoulder at a tiger stood on a hill about ten metres behind him.
The young lad returns his gaze to the camera with a twinkle in his eye.
Suddenly the tiger, which had been slowly stalking towards him until this point, lurches forward.
The apex predator sprints at the child, raising its huge paws and mouth in anticipation of a meal.
Unfortunately for the tiger but fortunately for the boy, the strong sheet of glass holds.
As the child lurches away in fear the big cat paws at the barrier in a frustrated manner.
Less than a day after it was posted by the boy's dad on Twitter it has received close to 400,000 views.
The video led many to comment on the magnificent size of the tiger.
"Wow! you would just have no chance against the tiger," one person wrote.
"Just as well the glass is thick for protection. If I was the zookeeper I’d be checking that glass that it still comes up to safety standards."
Others were concerned that the tiger was not able to fulfil its instinctual role cooped up in the zoo.
"Class memory for him; but I can’t help feel sorry for the tiger, the urge to just do what nature intended and he doesn’t get the chance....." one woman tweeted.
Another person added: "Animals should not be kept in cages for our amusement, it’s a sad existence."
